Dump Trucks And Icy Roads Make For Fatal Accidents 13/03/2001

A woman from the small town of Brandon in Oregon died on the scene when Oregon State Police came to the scene of the collision. Marion G. Behrens, 62, died when her car slid on an icy curve on a remote road and collided with an oncoming dump truck on Oregon 43 east of Brandon.

The truck driver Martin J.Gruelle, 54, was not hurt. The winter road conditions and speed were implicated in the crash, said Trooper Jeff Walker. Even though the sun was out and it was bright, the stretch of highway where the collision occurred was shaded and very slippery on the curve.

Remote roads in Oregon can be very dangerous this time of year, especially with logging trucks and dump trucks from building sites taking the same roads as passenger vehicles. Drivers are warned to slow down on these roads and keep to safe speeds especially when taking sharp bends.
