Caterpillar Bulldozer Enhancements 12/02/2007 Caterpillar bulldozers have been enhanced to work ripping strata and handling wood chips and coal. The Caterpillar wheel dozers have been expanded to provide a wider versatility and enhance the productivity of its Cat bulldozers by customizing them. The ripper attachments and scoops that have lift and tilt functions provide the extra use and capacity for various performances. The ripper modification for the 854 wheel dozer which is the largest in the Cat family, allows the machine to rip into hard ground, thin rock and coal. The scoops which are high-volume coal scoops and wood chips scoops enable the Cat bulldozers to become highly productive additions to any work site. The scoops also enable the bulldozers to move low-density materials much more efficiently. The scoop arrangements have been made available for the Caterpillar bulldozer 814, 824, 834 and the 844 wheel dozers. The ripper attachment means the heavy weight 854 wheel dozer enables the bulldozer to handle a greater variety of tasks in mines and other tough work sites. The ripper allows the bulldozer to accomplish tasks that otherwise might have needed a crawler tractor to be used, but that depend on the mobility of the wheel dozer to be able to reach the particular job. The design for the ripper modification came from using the D9 and the D10 ripper component. The ripper design which is a parallelogram provides the ability to hydraulically adjust the tip angle beyond vertical which improves penetration and enhances optimum ripping angles in most materials. The hydraulic controls are full pilot and make selection and control of either blade or ripper functions much easier. The scoop handles lighter material more effectively and works better at stockpiling coal, woodchips and hogfuel. The coal scoop for the 834 wheel dozer has 30 cubic yards capacity but it can move its own weight, 60 cubic yards with each pass. |
