Bobcat Celebrates 50th Anniversary 02/04/2008 Bobcat loaders are celebrating their 50th anniversary with events hosted around the world in Europe, Middle East and Africa in 2008 to mark the event. The Bobcat brand has become synonymous with skid steer loaders with the name Bobcat literally meaning skid steer loaders. The President of Bobcat EMEA, Neil Woodfin said, Fifty years ago, Melroe Manufacturing Company, the forerunner to Bobcat Company, introduced a compact front-end loader that evolved quickly into the M-400, the worlds first true skid-steer loader. The first skid steer loader the M-400 quickly took on the mantel of the famous Bobcat loader brand name and has since given the company a global impact in the industry. Bobcat loaders were sold worldwide last year with over 100,000 units shipped. Part of Bobcats 50th anniversary celebration is a competition called What did Bobcat do for me? The company will be asking customers from all over the world to send in stories about how they believe Bobcat skid steer loaders have enabled them to work better, smarter, and faster. All participants in the competition will win a 50th Anniversary Bobcat baseball hat and there will be great prizes for the monthly winners whose stories were chosen to feature on the website. The first Bobcat skid steer loader, the M-400 was further improved on in the 1960s and was when then re-launched with the M-444 skid steer loader model in 1963 which was then sold on the European market. Today Bobcat loaders not only include the famous skid steer loader but the manufacturers also produce compact tracked loaders, compact excavators, telescopic handlers and a wide range of attachments for all the loaders. Last year saw the expansion and growth of Bobcat with the opening of the first new Bobcat manufacturing plant outside the US at the heart of the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region at Dobris, south of Prague in Czech Republic. |
