New Quay Cranes And Eco-rtgs Delivered To Port Pipavav 13/11/2007 Three state-of-the art, post-panamax quay cranes were delivered to Port Pipavav along with 10RTGs and ZPMC, China. Whilst these quay cranes have been designed, the vessel sizes on the West Coast of India which are ever increasing have been kept in mind to improve the designs so that world-class processes can be carried out at the port. These quay cranes are some of the biggest yet to be delivered to any port to India. They have an outreach of 53m (18 across), a total lift of 58m (40m above crane rail) and a maximum capacity of 61MT. Big names such as ABB, Siemens, Pirelli etc are the main suppliers for the major components for the cranes. Ten new Eco-RTGs were also delivered to Port Pipavav at the same time the three ne quay cranes. This is a first for any port in India and Port Pipavav is the second port in Asia to receive Eco-RTGs. These models have been designed by Siemens and APM Terminals with the attempt to save fuel rates of upto 50% compared to the standard model of the RTGs which consist of the same capacity. The delivery of the Eco-RTGs is evidence that Port Pipavav is trying to bring the most modern equipment to the country and is trying to protect the environment as much as possible when using large pieces of machinery. The quay crane will function on the 385m new container berth. It will work with the first part of the new berth in March 2008 when it will be put into commercial use. The delivery of the cranes and RTGs are part of a major scheme which is taking place to enhance the container handling capacity at Port Pipavav to more than one million TEUs. Port Pipavav is able to offer weekly sailings to the Europe, US East Coast, Red Sead, China and the Far-East. The port is also able to offer good road an rail connectivity and weekly trains that run regularly to all North India ICDs. It has developed into an essential gateway for container cargo on the West Coast of India. |
