Features and Options

There are a wide range of cranes available all of which are suited for certain areas of the crane industry.
RailRoad Crane: This crane has train wheels or it can be attached directly to a flat car. Railroad cranes are used for repair and maintenance work as well as freight loading and unloading.
Mobile Crane: This is the most common, also used for demolition. They have a telescopic boom that is attached to a moving platform. The mobile platform moves on wheels, tracks or rails. The boom is hinged at the bottom and is raised by either cables or hydraulic cylinders. The metal rope is attached by a lifting hook which is operated by a variety of transmissions. The mobile crane is easily converted to perform other functions. The demolition ball can be attached or they can be used to move earth by the addition of a dragline and bucket scoop.
Telescopic Crane: These cranes telescopic boom consists of several tubes slotted into each other. This style of boom is used for large scale construction projects for rescue jobs.
Tower Crane: These mammoth machines are used for large height and weight capacity. Consisting of a horizontal boom that sits across a tower one side carries the counter weight of the attached load on the lifting equipment. The operator is located at either the top of the tower or can be remotely controlled.

Other types of crane that are not commonly seen are the giant cantilever crane, the truck mounted crane, the crawler crane, gantry crane, overhead crane, floating crane, aerial crane and the job crane.
